Frequently Asked Questions

How does my beam fix to the wall?

Your beam will be supplied with quality concealed floating brackets which are fixed to the wall and your beam will simply slide onto these using the pre-drilled holes positioned in the back face of the beam. We also supply each beam with an instruction guide.

Is my beam finished or do I have to wax or oil it myself?

Your beam will be beautifully sanded and three coats of quality Fiddes Beeswax applied.

What size mantel beams to you have?

Our popular cross section sizes are 4″x4″  6″x4″  7″x4″ and 8″x4″

Beams can be made between 3ft and 5ft long. (90cm and 150cm)

Which side of the beam will be against the wall?

We process your beam so that the largest face goes against the wall. For example our 6″x4″ beam, the 6″ face sits against the wall leaving the beam protruding 4″ from the wall surface. Should you require to use your beam the other way around like a shelf, this can be accommodated.

How much character will my beam have?

Your beam will be made from a piece of history, probably over 150 years old. It will be display saw markings, knots, splits, old nail holes and a lovely aged patina. It will be sanded and planed slightly, we know just how much character to leave in and what to sand away!
